1. Who we are

The Data Controller for this website is Gennaro Basile, acting as the founder and organiser of Buildspace081 (“we”, “us”, “our”), an informal community for builders, students and founders based in Naples, Italy. For any privacy-related enquiry, write to team@buildspace081.com.

2. What data we collect

When you apply to join the community, we receive:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Role (chosen from a predefined list)
  • LinkedIn profile URL (optional)
  • A short description of what you are working on (optional)
  • Whether you agreed to receive updates and newsletters

When you ask to receive our updates, we receive your email address.

By applying, you declare that you are at least 14 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

3. Legal basis

  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): you agree to the processing of your data when you submit your application.
  • Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): to evaluate applications and manage community onboarding.
  • Separate marketing consent: we send newsletters and event invitations only if you opted in to them.

4. How we use your data

  • To register you in the community with immediate acceptance.
  • To send your welcome email with the WhatsApp community invite. Joining the WhatsApp group is your choice; we do not add you automatically.
  • To send you newsletters, event announcements and community updates, only with your separate consent.

We do not sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing.

5. How your data reaches us and where it is kept

Community applications are sent to our website server and stored in our existing Buildspace081 Supabase database. A new registration starts our existing welcome email and team notification automation. Newsletter requests currently open your email app; they are sent only when you choose to send the message and are kept in our inbox.

This website relies on the following providers:

  • Vercel Inc.: hosting. Vercel processes the technical data needed to serve the pages (such as IP address and request logs) and the application data submitted through the server.
  • Supabase Inc.: stores community application data and some images shown on the homepage (Sunday Journal covers). Loading those images sends your IP address to Supabase, as for any image on the web.
  • Resend: sends welcome emails and registration notifications to our team.
  • Make: receives registration data through our existing onboarding automation.

Fonts are served from this website, so no request is made to Google when you browse it.

6. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your membership is active, or as long as needed for the purposes above. Applications we do not accept are deleted within 6 months. You can ask for earlier deletion at any time (see section 8).

7. Photos and videos at our events

Buildspace081 lives in real rooms. At our meetups, workshops and other events in Naples, photos and videos may be taken to document the community. They may be published on this website, in our WhatsApp community and on our social channels. We never sell or license them to third parties. If you appear in a published photo and want it removed, write to team@buildspace081.com and we will take it down.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification of inaccurate data.
  • Erasure of your personal data.
  • Restriction of how we use it.
  • Portability: receive it in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent to marketing at any time, by unsubscribing from any email or by writing to us.

To exercise these rights, email team@buildspace081.com. We reply within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali).

9. Cookies

This website does not use tracking, marketing or advertising cookies, and loads no third-party analytics.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, for example when we add a newsletter tool or change our application processing. When we do, we change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
